Joseph McNerney, DO
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
Dr McNerney, DO is an experienced board-certified osteopathic physician. He is an experienced medical educator. He is the past president of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is also a Distinguished Fellow of the college. Dr. McNerney is an Emeritus Chairman of the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians. This Board certifies all Osteopathic Family Physicians in the United States.
Dr. McNerney practiced Family Medicine for 20 years in rural Iowa before becoming the Clinical Dean of The Touro University College Of Osteopathic Medicine in California. He later assumed the role of Director of Medical Education of the Osteopathic Division of St. John Providence Health System, a large health system in and around Detroit Michigan. In both these roles Dr. McNerney established multiple new residency training programs and new clinical rotations for medical students.
Dr. McNerney moved to Florida in 2014 and has practiced in this area since that time. Dr. McNerney was also Board Certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine in 1988.
Mario Mendizabal, MD
Dr Mendizabal has been practicing General and Family Medicine in Citrus County for 42 years.
He attended the U.M.S.S. Faculty of Medicine in Cochabamba, Bolivia from 1963 through 1970, moved to the U.S in 1971 and started with his post graduate training on the same year.
He completed an Internship at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa Oklahoma followed by two and a half years of Residency training in Psychiatry in Norman, Oklahoma. Dr Mendizabal joined the US Public Health Service and worked as a General Medical officer for the Indian Health Service for 3 years. He then decided to continue working as a General Physician and moved to Inverness, Florida in 1976. Dr Mendizabal has been on the staff of both Citrus Memorial Hospital and Seven Rivers Hospital for all of these years. He became Board Certified in Family Practice in 1978 and currently is a Lifetime Member of the American Academy of Family Medicine.
Dr Mendizabal believes in the traditional, science based clinical medical approach to patient care and is particularly interested in the medical care of the elderly.
Barry Nash, MD
Dr. Barry Nash is a board-certified internal medicine physician. He has been practicing medicine since 2007. He is a firm believer in preventative medicine and the old cliché that an “ounce of medicine is worth a pound of cure.” With years of experience treating chronic diseases including heart failure, diabetes, hypertension as many others, Dr. Nash realizes that “uncommon presentations of common things occur commonly.” He also understands that uncommon but serious conditions do occur; he makes sure that he is thorough in his approach to making diagnoses. His strives for every one of his patients to have the best possible care and that all assets necessary are utilized to achieve that goal.
Dr. Nash is originally from Syracuse, NY although his second home growing up if Florida. He vowed to make Florida his home as soon as possible and once he completed residency in Ohio, he packed his belongings and hopped on I-75 south to Florida and never looked back. He believes in quality of life and enjoys spending time with his family. His favorite activities include gardening, rock hounding, sports, and cooking.
Dr. Nash holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Boston University, Master of Science from the State University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY and a Doctorate of Medicine from St. Georges University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.
Ken Savage, DO
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
Kenneth L. Savage Jr. D.O. is a Citrus County native. He comes from a long line of doctors including his grandfather, who practiced Family Medicine, and his father, who founded Citrus Cardiology 40 years ago.

April Weliever, M.D.
April Weliever, M.D., MSW is originally from Tampa, Florida. She attended undergraduate school at Florida College, the University of South Florida and graduate school at Florida State University completing her studies in social work. After spending 10 years working as a social worker with the Hillsborough County Public Schools she chose to pursue her education as a physician.
She attended medical school at Ross University in Dominica, West Indies and completed her residency at Louisiana State University where she served as chief resident in the Family Medicine program. She is Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Dr. Weliever has been practicing Family Medicine in Citrus County for 2 years and is very excited to be joining Nature Coast Health Care.
Dr. Weliever resides in Homosassa, Florida. She has been married to Kenny Weliever for 20 years and they have two children, ages six and four. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, outdoor activities, reading and traveling.
Ashley Thomas, FNP
Family Nurse Practitioner
Ashley Thomas is a Family Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. After 10 years in medical office administration she received her Associates Degree in Nursing in 2010 from Lake Sumter State College. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in 2015 and has been working as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse since.
Ashley strives to provide quality care and enjoys assisting her patients to stay healthy throughout their lives.
Janet Slawinski, ANP
Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Janet Slawinski is Board Certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from Stony Brook University in 1993. She returned there for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which she completed in 1998.
She completed her Advanced Practice Registered Nurse degree in 2005, also from Stony Brook. She has been working as a Certified Nurse Practitioner since. She love what she does! She treats her patients like family.
Amanda Mendoza, APRN, FNP
Hello Nature Coast patients. I come to you as a new nurse practitioner, earning my degree as a family nurse practitioner from Purdue Northwest University in Indiana. I have been a nurse for 22 years. 18 of which were spent caring for pregnant women and babies in obstetrics.
I recently moved from Illinois to Florida with my family. My daughter is studying equine science at University of Florida. My son is looking forward to the JROTC programs offered here in Florida. My husband and I are thrilled with our decision to relocate here. We have discovered that we love to kayak. I am very excited to practice in this community.
Antoinette Frussinetty, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, RN-BC
Antoinette Frussinetty, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, RN-BC is a board certified Nurse Practitioner who relocated from NYC to Citrus County in 2016. She has three degrees in Nursing which she obtained from Pace University in Manhattan, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science degree (BSN) in Nursing in 2005, her Master of Science (MSN) degree in Nursing in 2009 and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2015. She also has two American Nursing Credentialling Center (ANCC) Board Certifications; one as a Medical Surgical Nurse and the other as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has been practicing as a Registered Nurse since 2005 and as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2010. She is a member of the American Nurses Association. Dr. Frussinetty is married with one daughter and lives in Citrus County.
